New Legislative Initiatives

NJ Swim Safety Alliance is actively working toward two new bills. We are collaborating with NJ Assemblyman Sean Kean to draft and introduce the legislation. The bills still need co-sponsors. A-3950 requires birthing centers and hospitals to offer a video on the dangers of drowning for infants and young children. This bill was introduced on March 4, 2024, and referred to the Assembly Children, Families, and Food Security Committee. It is awaiting a hearing. A-668 Requires the Commissioner of Education to develop an educational fact sheet on water safety for public and nonpublic schools. It was also introduced on January 9, 2024, and was referred to the Assembly Education Committee and is awaiting a hearing. Please join our Alliance in contacting your representatives. We aim to reduce drowning in NJ 30% by 2030. These initiatives will help. Use our simple online form with THIS LINK to contact your representatives.

Bathingsuit and Goggle Drive

The NJRPA/NJSSA/Dolfin Bathing Suit & Goggle Drive is on! So far, 600 bathing suits and 200 pairs of goggles were delivered to deserving NJ agencies providing free or reduced-cost swim lessons to needy kids. Bathing Suits lead to swimming lessons, and swimming lessons save lives.

Our partners are the backbone of the New Jersey Bathingsuit and Goggle Drive. Dolfin SwimWear has been a champion of the drive for the past two years, providing marketing material and donating hundreds of bathing suits. The NJ Recreation and Park Association initiated the drive in 2018 and welcomed NJSSA to help expand its reach. We are proud to partner and collaborate with both organizations, and we deeply appreciate their contributions. Over 30 NJ-based aquatic facilities, including swim schools, municipal pools, churches, non-profit organizations, and waterparks, serve as donation sites, and the movement is growing organically. Your donations are arriving daily, and we need your continued support to keep the momentum going. We are on track to beat last year’s record of 1800 bathing suits and 900 pairs of goggles!
