New Drowning Report Shows Increase in Child Fatalities
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released its annual drowning and submersion report. The recent release of data that tells us death by drowning increased following the shutdowns and restrictions of water safety programs initiated by COVID-19, only confirms what the members of the New Jersey Swim Safety Alliance (NJSSA) have known for years: death by drowning is controllable by the three major efforts NJSSA has been making.
Raise public awareness to increase the significance of the unnecessary loss of life by drowning to our communities and the state legislature.
Adhere to sound water safety practices prescribed by the Red Cross and local agencies and ordinances.
Everyone learns to swim, including those at greater risk and who live in communities with financial and cultural limitations.
In New Jersey, we lose an average of about 65 people per year to death by drowning. Our organization collaborates closely with our members to achieve our goals through thoughtful advocacy and programming. Together, we can make a real difference.
The mission of NJSSA is to reduce death by drowning by 2030 by 30% and by 2035 by 50%. For more information on membership and how you can help contact us at [email protected]
